Sedco Communications has successfully completed a landmark rural broadband connectivity project, bringing high-speed wireless internet access to 12 remote villages across the interior districts of Sabah including Keningau, Beaufort, and Sipitang.
The project, supported under a government rural connectivity programme, involved the installation of wireless access point towers, solar-hybrid power systems, subscriber equipment, and a backhaul microwave link to the nearest fibre point of presence.
More than 5,000 residents now have access to broadband internet speeds of up to 30Mbps, enabling access to online education, telemedicine, e-government services, and economic opportunities for the first time.
“Connecting Sabah’s rural communities is at the heart of what we do,” said SComm’s Director of Projects. “This project is a testament to our team’s dedication and ability to work in challenging, remote environments.”
The project was completed within the 9-month timeline and has been formally handed over to the respective local authorities.
